Ostrava Days 2007 New Music Institute and Festival August 13 - September 2, 2007 Application Guidelines

Conditions of Entry:
Students will be chosen by a review of no more than 3 scores and audio samples submitted by the applicants. Please enclose performance-ready scores that you would like us to consider with your application.

Application fee:
300 CZK; 30 EUR; 40 USD (see information below)

Tuition (includes full room and board):
European applicants 2200 EUR

Limited financial assistance is available. Tuition may be reduced according to: a)the applicant’s financial capabilities; b)the financial possibilities of Ostrava Center For New Music A special effort will be made to make fellowships available to participants from the former Eastern-block countries, especially to students from Czech Republic and Slovakia. To apply for financial assistance, please submit a detailed statement about your financial needs and/or your most recent tax return (U.S. applicants).

3. Applicants from the U.S.A. and all other countries send 40 USD in form of an international money order or a check payable to SEM Ensemble/OCNM account to: OCNM, 25 Columbia Place, Brooklyn, NY 11201, U.S.A. or send money by paypal to info@ocnmh.cz (more information at www.paypal.com)

Application fee is non-refundable and your application will be considered after the fee is received.

Tuition includes:

1. Full participation at Ostrava Days 2007 as a resident-student
• Lectures, seminars and workshops on selected topics by each of the featured lector-composers and guests
• Private and/or group consultations with lector-composers and guests
• Possibility for performance(s) of selected compositions at the Ostrava Days 2007 Festival (August 26 - September 1). Performers include the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Ostravská banda (23-piece international ensemble), Melos Ethos Ensemble (Bratislava), Flux Quartet (New York), Sonar Streich Quartet (Berlin), Zinc & Copper Works (Berlin), Canticum Ostrava (35-piece mixed choir) and soloists. Click for instrumentation and list of soloists. All performances are recorded and copies will be made available for a small fee.
• Opportunity to initiate presentation(s) within the scope of Ostrava Days.
• Access to practice rooms at the Janáček Conservatory daily from 8a.m. to 11p.m.
• Access to OCNM Library and Archives (scores, books, recordings, documents, composition materials, photos, etc.)

2. Room and board in Ostrava from August 13 - September 2, 2007
• Housing in the centrally located Hotel Maria (with limited single room availability) in the immediate proximity of the Janáček Conservatory and the Philharmonic Hall.
• 3 meals a day provided by a selected local restaurant. Meals offer another opportunity for students, lectors, and guests to interact in an informal way.

Your application package must include:

• Completed and signed application form
• Scores and audio samples (no more than 3). Scores must be performance-ready.
• Biography in English
• Application fee: proof of payment (European applicants), or check/money order (all other applicants)
• Please specify any special requirements (dietary, medical, etc.)
